Referencing and Bibliography Management Tools

                           Freehand drawing or underlining
 Bookmarking sections for future reference
 These annotations are stored in the tool’s database and are synchronized across
devices if cloud storage is enabled.

                   1.6 Cloud Synchronization and Sharing

 Zotero Storage: Offers 300 MB of free storage with options to upgrade; enables file
                          syncing and group sharing.
 Mendeley: Provides 2 GB of free personal cloud storage for documents and
                          annotations.
 EndNote Web: Allows users to sync libraries and attachments across devices.

This capability is particularly useful for research teams working on collaborative projects
where shared annotations and access to full documents are necessary.

                   1.7 Search and Retrieval

Tools offer full-text search capabilities, enabling users to locate references based on content
within PDFs. Zotero and Mendeley, for instance, index every imported document and allow
                   searching across:

                              Titles and abstracts
                              Author names
 Full-text content of the attached files
 This facilitates quick navigation and use of relevant literature during the
                                 research process.

                   2. Data Interchange Between Tools: RIS and BibTeX Formats

RIS and BibTeX formats serve as critical interchange standards. Understanding these allows
researchers to appreciate the architecture of citation data. For instance, BibTeX's role in
LaTeX typesetting systems exemplifies the importance of flexible, code-based citation
workflows in disciplines like physics and computer science.

2.1 The Need for Interchange Formats

Researchers often switch reference tools or collaborate across institutions that use different
systems. To avoid manual data entry, standardized bibliographic formats enable the import
and export of citation metadata across tools. Two of the most common formats are RIS and
                   BibTeX.
